Stopped in to have a slow leak checked. Was told to pull into the quick oil change bay and the young man took the tire off and found leaks around the rim. The service department advised they couldn't look at it for hours so I told them I couldn't stay and to put on the spare. They said the spare (which was fully inflated in the carrier), needed a valve stem and wouldn't hold air. I left it there, they inflated the tire on the car, and when I came back to pick up the spare I was given a bill for $53.00!!! To replace a valve stem and clean the rim. I feel this is excessive and was shocked but paid the bill. I will take any other tire work somewhere else at this price. I have a state inspection scheduled on the 20th but am now reconsidering that also.
Hello William, I am sorry that you believe that we are too expensive. All tire repairs start in our Quick Lube, allowing our service department to continue to work on the vehicles we have on the daily schedule. When you came in, our Quick Lube team found that the tire that was leaking was in fact leaking around the bead. This is something that must be taken back to our service department to be fixed. This requires fitting you into our schedule as soon as we have a tech available. Sometimes this takes time and in your case, it did. Since the tire needed to be looked at further, we took down the spare tire to put on in place of the tire in need of repair. Once the spare was down, our Quick Lube manager found that the spare was completely flat and the wheel was extremely rusty. This becomes a very big safety issue for you and your family and we do not take that lightly. Being that your vehicle is a 1999, the rust is very common. Once our service department got the chance to get the wheel taken care of for you, the tech took a great deal of time cleaning the wheel up and replacing the valve stem. What would usually take about a half an hour (which is the amount that you were charged for) took him longer. The tech was able to get the tire bead and valve stem to seal and in safe working condition. We appreciate the opportunity to help keep you and your family safely on the road. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me or our service manager, Steve. Thank you for your business! Jacquie Walter-Hower Director of Operations
