Ready to buy car for my son, wanted it to be titled in his name, they made up some statute about not being able to sell car to under 18 year old. Verified with other dealerships there is no such law. When asked what law, dealer owner said, "I don't know, I just know it's a law." They just make stuff up as they go. Would not recommend this dealership, wasted too much time dealing with them. There are far too many dealerships around to waste time with them!
Hi Jamie, my name is Judy Zimmerman Walter, I am part owner at Zimmerman's Automotive. You spoke with several of our staff and one of my partners Jay Zimmerman. You are correct, it is perfectly legal to buy a car in a minor's name. That is where the law gets gray. When I sell a car the buyer needs to sign a bill of sale, which is considered a contract. Said minor, when they reach adulthood can then sue Zimmerman's for every dime spent on the vehicle because the once minor can state they did not know what they were doing when vehicle was purchased. Unfortunately, no court in the US would rule in the favor of the selling dealer. You have asked our sales staff to go against company policy to sell this vehicle to your minor son. Unfortunately we were not able to comply to your wishes. Thanks for your understanding in this unique situation. Judy
